If you knew of an easy way to help keep some member of your family from becoming addicted to alcohol or meth would you like to know how? Or if they were addicted and needed help getting free from their addictions? Or if there was something that could be done to keep them from going back into their addictions? America’s diet is not only leading to obesity, heart disease and diabetes, but there is strong evidence that it’s also a factor in addiction. Fortunately it has been found that by making simple changes in lifestyle—what a person eats and drinks—some people can be helped. We realize that addictions can be caused by various factors some of which can be difficult to change, however most people can change what they eat and drink if they really want to.

Over the years studies on animals have shown that poor nutrition and/or caffeine will cause them to drink alcohol instead of water. Other studies on animals and humans have revealed that caffeine can serve as a reinforcer for nicotine, alcohol, cocaine, and amphetamine. This means that if a person is addicted to one of these drugs and he drinks caffeine he will want more of that drug.

Citizens Concerned About Addiction (CCAA) is a non profit organization in Farmington, New Mexico. Our goal is to prevent addiction, aid in treatment of addictions and educate people—from medical professionals to parents, grandparents, teachers and kids—about poor nutrition and problems due to caffeine. We offer a PowerPoint presentation and handouts to help you learn more and share information with others.

We recommend that this information be shown in middle schools, high schools, prisons, county jails, PTAs, and service organizations such as Lions, Rotary and etc. across the nation. We have shown the presentation a number of times in Farmington, NM with some enthusiastic response. Go to the Presentations page to download.
